The Advert

This is an analysis of We Are Scientists - Impatience single poster.

The colours used on this album poster are mainly oranges and yellows. These colours are used in the background for the poster and they make the poster look like a painting. The other colours used on this poster are very neutral or simple which means that there isn't a lot going on meaning that the poster isn't too over crowded. The oranges and yellows are also stereotypically happy colours and colours that brighten anything. On this poster, the colours brighten the background and draw attention to it.

The main focus on this album cover are the two men who have been positioned so they take up nearly the entire poster. This is so we can see clearly who they are and what they are doing. The band name has been positioned in the top left hand corner of the poster and has been made as the second biggest item on the poster. It has also been positioned just above one of the men's heads which means that we can clearly see both parts of the poster and that they both help focus each other. All the information regarding the singles release has been positioned in the bottom left hand corner. It's harder to notice than anything else on the poster. This makes you look for it meaning you focus on the entire poster and not just certain parts of the poster.

The only image on this poster is of the band members. They have been made as the largest thing on this poster which means they are noticeable and bold. This is the main seller of this poster as it people who are fans of 'We Are Scientists' see the band and focus their attention onto the poster.

The band title is split up into two parts. The 'We Are' has been written in italics which puts emphasis on these two words. So when read it is put across as though they are saying they are scientists and not just a band called 'We Are Scientists'. The word 'Scientists' has been written in the same style font for consistency however it is not written in italics. This puts across that the word 'Scientists' is the end and that it has a definite finish. The single title 'Impatience' has been written in the same font as the band name however it's been written slightly smaller and in capitals. This is to separate it from the band name but to make sure that it is noticed and read. Each letter has also been spaced out more to really make it noticeable as there are not as many letters as the band name. The information regarding the singles release has been written in black and written a lot smaller than the band name and single title. This is because once a fan knows who the single is by, they will look at the poster in detail to find the information regarding what the poster is about.

This is an analysis of a John Mayer poster advertising a concert.

The main colour on this poster is red. The red creates a banner for the information regarding when the tour is and where. The red also is complimented by the fact that the image is in black and white. This means that there isn't a lot happening on this poster and that the red is the dominant colour working to make the poster stand out.

The positioning of everything on this poster is very simple. The image of John Mayer has been placed directly in the middle of the page and takes up nearly the entire poster. The artists name has been placed directly underneath the image. This is because out eyes follow down and so we next read 'John Mayer'. Directly underneath that is the information regarding the whereabouts of the concert and when the concert will take place.

There are two images on this poster. The first one is of the artist who will be performing the concert. The image has been taken in black and white which works well with the dominant colour of red. The image is the largest thing on this poster and has been made so that when people see the poster, the artists is the first thing you see. The second image isn't very noticeable. It has been placed in the bottom left hand corner and is of the album that John Mayer will be performing. It's not very easy to notice and would be the last thing to be noticed.

The artist name has been written in capitals, bold and in white. This makes it stand out from the background and means that it's the most noticeable piece of writing. Underneath that is another piece of font written in the same font, in capitals and still in white however it's not written in bold making it harder to see. However as it is directly underneath the artist name, it's very noticeable. The place and time of the concert is written directly underneath that and written in a slightly different font. Each letter has been written very close together so that it doesn't dominate the poster. It's been written still in the theme of white on a red background and has been made so it is just as noticeable as the artists name. This is so that the artists name and when and where is made very clear and the first thing to be seen.
